Ponytail and bun pieces: when and how

A ponytail or bun piece is not a full wig. You keep your own front and sides; the piece is the length or the bun. Useful when you are short on time, dressing up, or your own hair will not hold a high tie.

Ponytail or bun

Choose the style first, then colour. Both need enough of your own hair to hide the join.

  • Low or mid ponytail: everyday and work.
  • High ponytail: sporty or evening — you need side hair to hide the clip.
  • Bun piece: evening, or a clean nape.

Hold and colour

The clip should sit on your own tied hair, not hang in the air. Match colour at the nape where it meets the piece.

  1. Detangle your hair and tie it firmly.
  2. Align the clip; tug gently so it does not slip.
  3. Use a little of your own hair to hide the clip and elastic.
